Same Sex Civil Unions

Civil unions in the Rainbow State are now official as of Jan. 1, 2012, making Hawaii the seventh state to permit civil unions or similar legal recognitions for gay couples. A Civil Union extends the same rights, benefits, protections, and responsibilities of spouses in a marriage to partners in a civil union.
